Yay! Fun Videos!

1) M can climb...I'm in trouble!
Look what our little Monkey can do now!
Don't worry...I was really close to her. I first watched her do it once this morning. And, being the wonderful Mom I am, I asked her if she could climb up the chair to get her water (for the video of course), and like a good little girl, she did as she was told. :)

2) Hiccups!
This is too funny...in my opinion, anyways!

I always say this...but I really do need to use my video camera more!!! Someone please remind me of this...so that my next video post isn't in 3 more months!!!

Foto Friday - Cheeeeeese!

(A day late...sorry!)
M grabs my phone almost every day and requests her picture be taken by saying, "Cheeeeese!" and then hands the phone to me. (How can I say no!?)
Then, like any little one of her generation, she grabs the phone back immediately to see herself!
Happy (snowy) Saturday!

Family Museum Day!

On January 3rd we visited the Family Museum in Bettendorf for the first time.

We thought the schools would be back in session...but we were wrong, so the place was packed!

I would say M was still a little too young to fully enjoy everything the museum had to offer. Plus, with it being crowded with so many 'big kids' we didn't let her run and explore as much as we would have if it would have been a bit less crowded.

Picture time!

She enjoyed the lego table area.

She really loved looking at the aquariums. We will have to make a trip to a real aquarium this summer perhaps.

Fishies!

And turtles

'Rock Climbing!'

Music time...while getting a shoulder ride from Daddy.

There was a lot more at the museum than these few pictures.

Despite the crowds and the fact that we felt M was still a bit too young, we enjoyed ourselves and it was fun to check it out to know what to expect for the next time we visit!!!

First Snow!

(Although this is actually M's second winter, I'm considering this her first snow experience since last year she was just too young to fully understand everything.)

On Thursday, the snow finally hit our area! It was quite windy, but we decided to bundle M up and let her experience sledding and snow just for a few moments...and it was SO worth it! :)

M checking out the snow that morning.

I was SO excited to see her in her snow suit. And, let me tell you...there is nothing sweeter than the sound of the 'swish-swish' of her snow pants when she would walk.

Getting bundled up.

Daddy getting ready to pull her around.

She was so happy and smiled the whole time! She loved being pulled in her sled.

Look at that face!

Weeeee!

Then, we let her get out to explore.

She wasn't too sure what to think about actually being in the snow.

And then she fell.

And got 'stuck.' :(

Daddy saved her though!

We went inside after that, but she actually cried and ran back to the door, so we went out and pulled her around one last time.

My favorite picture from the day.

And...because Iowa weather is CRAZY!

18...I mean 17 Months

Our little M is 18 months old. Half way to 2! Yikes! (I started this post a couple days ago.)

I'm an idiot she's only 17 months old.
Do me a favor and pretend the sign in her pictures say 17 instead of 18, k?!

The snow fell just in time for her monthly pictures. I'll be short and sweet on her updates...then we can get to the pictures quicker. :)

Loves:
Suckers
Mickey Mouse Club and saying "Daisy"
Daddy
Eating
Feeding herself with her fork/spoon
Petting her kitties that we have out in the shop
Reading books before bed
Brushing her teeth with Mama
Collecting sticks outside

New Facinations:
Dipping with her food
Blowing on her food if it's too hot
Stacking her toys
Coloring
Climbing

New Words:
Please
"Cheese" for her pictures
Boo
Uh-oh

Random Stuff:
She's finally getting more teeth! She has two molars coming in on the top.

She still naps twice a day, and goes to bed around 8:30pm and wakes around 7:30am. I think she's on her way to dropping a nap though...

We started a Mommy and Me Music class on Monday! It's lots of fun!

Ok, onto the pictures!
(I had a lot of good ones...so I'm going to post the rest on FB.)

First picture this afternoon. She had been outside yesterday (post on that tomorrow!), so she new what the snow was. I think she was wondering what was going on since I had just went to hang her sign.

There was a decent drift in front of the fence, but just enough room for her and Winnie to fit.

She loved feeling the snow...I couldn't find any good waterproof mittens for her, so these ones had to do. Good thing we were quick today!

After her shots by the fence...she was more interested in finding a stick.

She then sees her mislabeled sign. Bad Mama!

Poor Winnie gettin' the cold (literally and figuratively) shoulder today.

She did not like seeing the snow on the bottom of her boots and spent some time trying to brush it off.

Look at her little footprints!

"Ooooohhhhh, snow on my stick!!!"

Happy 17 months, baby M! We love you!

Foto Friday - Coloring

Having fun laying on the coffee table coloring! :)
Well, it was fun until Winky stole her crayon and ate some of it, and Benny ate some of her paper! :(

I Can't Believe I Drive a Mini-Van!

As my good IRL and fellow-blogger friend, Michelle, so truthfully stated on this Foto Friday post...yes, I crossed to the dark side of being a mini-van owner!!!

What? Wait? How did this happen!?

I always swore that no matter what...I'd never be that soccer mom driving the dreaded mini-van. And, here I am...(not necessarily a soccer mom...yet(?!) the PROUD new owner of a mini-van. What's next...are some high-waisted Mom-jeans going to find their way into my closet???? Please dear family and friends...if I am ever wearing Mom-jeans...PLEASE intervene!!!

Ok, so back to my original question - how did this happen? How did I find myself sitting at the car dealership signing away my life the paperwork to become a new owner of a Honda Odyssey?

Life happened. M happened.

Isn't she cute back there!?

Obviously purchasing a new vehicle is a HUGE decision. After much research, debate, number crunching and budgeting, and self-reflection, I realized that the reason I didn't want a mini-van was solely due to me feeling like it would somehow tarnish my 'cool-mom' image...an image that I realized I don't really hold anyways (ha!)...and an image that is pretty selfish really.

Ok. More specifically, here's what SOLD me on the Odyssey:
-The push-button/automatic sliding back doors are WONDERFUL. When I'm by myself with M, this small convenience makes the world of difference..
-The roominess inside is GREAT. I can sit inside and change her diaper/clean her up very comfortably. Also, more room for guests to travel with us!
-The MPG were a tad better than the Acadia...and since I live in the country and do a fair amount of highway driving...this does add up.
-The Odyssey has a very smooth and comfortable ride.
-More storage for stuff all of M's junk, I mean stuff.
-The DVD player is a super nice bonus. The DVD screen has the ability to have a split screen. And, it has wireless headphones so in the future my kids (yes, we plan on having more someday) can each watch a movie, and I could still listen to music. Yes, my future kids are already being spoiled?!

A random (and crooked) shot of my view as the driver:

So, even though the Acadia holds the 'coolness' factor for me...the Odyssey had a few more benefits that I would have felt silly choosing the Acadia just because I considered it a 'cooler' car.

And yet, at the end of this post, all I can conclude with is: Uggghhhh. I'm old. :)

Proof: I drive a mini-van. And, I just used the words 'cooler' and 'coolness" in this post.

:) Happy Driving All! And hugs to all my fellow mini-van Mamas!

"Granite"

Last week, Josh was watching the DIY channel and caught a show featuring a product called, Giani - Granite Paint for Countertops. Basically, it's an inexpensive way to make-over your counter tops giving you the look of granite for less. A LOT less than actual granite counter tops. We weren't in love with the color of our counter tops in our kitchen and had talked about getting new ones sometime in the distant future...but hey...for approx. $80 why not try this?!

You basically paint on a primer, then sponge on the mineral paints, then add the final clear topcoat. Their website has all the details and videos that I watched about 100 times to make sure I was doing what I was supposed to be doing.

So, Friday afternoon I took everything off the counters and scrubbed them well with a basic cleaner. Then, later that afternoon, I followed their directions and wiped them down twice with just water to remove all residues.

Here's the counters, all clean and ready for primer. We weren't huge fans of the color of the counter. It has (had) a subtle rose/pink hue, and we felt it blended a bit too much with the color of the cabinets.

After M went to bed Friday night, Josh and I taped everything off, and then I painted on the primer.

Saturday morning, the sponge painting began.

Saturday night, I added the first layer of the clear topcoat.

Sunday morning during M's nap, I added the final layer of the topcoat. And during her afternoon nap, I removed all the tape and cleaned up.

DONE!

Total Cost: Approx. $165
This was for 2 kits that included all paint, sponges, foam brushes and rollers. We bought 2 kits just in case, and I did end up using some of the topcoat from the second kit. This price also included all taxes and shipping, AND it included the additional 4 bottles of the counter top cleaner we ordered. (We had extra foam brushes, painter's tape, and the paint tray already.)

Total Time: Approx. 9 hours
For cleaning, taping, painting, sponging, applying the top coat, and clean up. Dry times were 8 hours after the primer, and 4 hours after sponging and each topcoat. So, basically, it is a weekend project...and without a 1 year old...you could probably finish it within 2 days.

What I Liked: Easy to follow directions and easy to do for a beginner DIY-er like me. You can create your own look with different combinations/amounts of the paints. After finishing, I actually wish I would have kept it a bit darker...but oh well!

What I Struggled With: The top coat was the most difficult thing to apply...but I managed ok. Working in the large corners was not fun!

We will have to see how durable it is.

Would I Recommend It: Yes.
If I can do it...you can do it. Of course it's not as good as granite, and we weren't doing this to play it off as actual granite of course...but it's great for a quick change/update to your counters. You could use it in bathrooms, too!

A couple Before and After comparisons for ya!

Anyways, Josh and I are happy with the new look!

Foto Friday - So Silly

Well, that's another way to have fun with your Busy Ball Elephant toy.
I guess she's practicing her modeling-wind blowing in her hair-look.

P.S. The official name of this toy (according to Amazon) is: Playskool Poppin' Park Eelefun Busy Ball Popper...is that not the LONGEST name ever for a toy?!

Christmas 2011

I'm finally getting around to posting about our Christmas weekend festivities!

Christmas Eve morning started with kisses with Daddy!

After her morning nap and lunch, Grandma Tracy and Jeff arrived.

Then came her first chance at opening presents. She was a PRO and enjoyed ripping the paper.

After her afternoon nap, we got dressed up and headed to Great G'ma Bev and Great G'pa Louie's house for dinner, church, and more presents.

Santa visited...but she still kept her distance.

After more presents and time with family...we headed home! It was an exhausting but super fun day! I don't think M was home and in bed until around 10pm!

Christmas Day began with M finding a cookie in the gift bags from the night before that I left in her reach. Winky wanted her to share....

After breakfast, Daddy put together her new rocking chair from G'ma Tracy.

Uncle Brandon and G'pa Dave arrived early afternoon. No, she didn't get an i-phone from her Uncle. Haha!

And, then it was time for MORE unwrapping!

And time for lotto tickets! M was excited...but we didn't have any big winners. Bummer!

After dinner...G'pa spoiled her some more with ice-cream for dessert! She had a meltdown shortly after (overtired from being up late the night before) and was off to bed.

We did go overboard with gifts for M, so next year we're cutting back. And by we, I mean JOSH. He is such a sucker and loves spoiling her! He even bought her two new toys 2 days before Christmas! I was SO mad at him! Our house now looks like a play room, so I will be sorting and going through toys to re-organize and create some kind of rotation.

Final Christmas Thought: The holiday season is SO much more magical when you have a child to share it with. :) I think I felt that more this year because last year I was still in my anxiety-filled new mom stage. I think I'm slowing coming out of that stage. Well, I think I am...Josh probably doesn't...anyways, I digress.
